NASA ASTRONAUT VICTOR GLOVER WILL COME TO BURSA
The great excitement continues for the ASE 2023 Congress (XXXIV. Planetary Congress), which will make a worldwide impact. Victor Glover, a NASA astronaut who will take part in the Artemis II flight, was among those who will attend the congress.
IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT HE WILL TAKE PART IN THE ARTEMIS II FLIGHT
The US National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) announced the names of the astronauts who will take part in the first crewed Artemis II flight that will travel around the Moon within the scope of the return to the Moon project.
In the statement made by NASA and CSA at an event held at Ellington Field, close to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, it was stated that the first female astronaut will also take part in the team and that the pilot will be Victor Glover (NASA), under the management of Reid Wiseman (NASA), and the mission experts will be Christina Hammock. It was shared that it will be Koch (NASA) and Jeremy Hansen (CSA).
This flight, which will be the continuation of the crewless Artemis I flight, will pave the way for the first female human to set foot on the Moon within the scope of the Artemis program and pave the way for future long-term human exploration missions.
COMING TO GUHEM BEFORE THE HISTORIC FLIGHT
Victor Glover will attend the ASE 2023 Congress (XXXIV. Planetary Congress) hosted by Gökmen Space Aviation Training Center (GUHEM) before the historic flight.
Victor Glover, who also served on SpaceX's first operational flight with NASA for human transportation, will share his experiences in technical sessions at the ASE 2023 Congress (XXXIV. Planetary Congress).
WHO IS VICTOR GLOVER?
During the journey that will make history, a black man and a woman will set foot on the Moon for the first time. So, who is Victor Glover, a NASA astronaut who served on the International Space Station (ISS) at the time?
Victor Jerome Glover Jr. was born on November 30, 1976, in Pomona, California. Glover earned a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering from California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) and a master's degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in Pennsylvania, where he was a U.S. Navy officer.
Glover was selected for NASA's 21st Aerospace Engineering and Science Ensemble (AES) in 2013 and became a NASA astronaut candidate in July 2015. In November 2020, Glover flew to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard SpaceX's Crew Dragon spacecraft as part of the Crew-1 mission. This flight was SpaceX's first operational flight with NASA for human transport, and Glover became the first black NASA astronaut to serve in space for an ISS crew.
Glover is currently training for NASA's Artemis II mission. The Artemis program aims to achieve NASA's goals of returning to the Moon and sustainable human existence. Artemis II will be a manned mission to the Moon in 2023 and will be supported by NASA's Orion spacecraft. Glover was selected as one of the team to serve in this role.
Stating that they will hold the first event at the center in September, President Burkay said, “In cooperation with our Gökmen Space Aviation Training Center and the Space Explorers Association, we will host the international congress with the participation of nearly 60 astronauts and cosmonauts who have made a name for themselves with their work. “We will continue to support our sector uninterruptedly so that Uludağ can get its deserved share from the wealth of the four-season tourism sector,” he said.
